Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Upper 4

As part of their Art studies Upper 4 (year 6) went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and spent a day learning about the work of great sculptors including Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Our guide for the day started by taking us to a hillside where a collection of bronze sculptures formed 'The Family of Man' - a work by Hepworth. We discussed the work, touched the pieces to appreciate the texture and sketched them. We saw more outdoor and indoor displays before concluding the visit with a sculpture-making session using all sorts of different materials. Everyone learned a lot and had enormous fun at the same time. Thank you all the staff at Yorkshire Sculpture Park for a great visit!

The top picture shows Year 6 with their guide. Then you can see our guide taking us on a tour
of a work by Barbara Hepworth which was placed on a hillside. She called it 'Family of Man' and it was a collection
of bronze sculptures depicting human beings of different ages. Pupils can be seen making sketches of the work. There are then pictures of our visit to the other exhibits.

On the right you can see one of our sculptures.
